Today we turn our attention to Real Valladolid. If you missed the first post on La Liga’s promoted sides, you can read the scouting report on Almeria here:
Through six matches, Blanquivioletas have collected only four points having beaten Almeria and drawing 1-1 with Sevilla. Owned by O Fenômeno (Happy Birthday, R9!), the club has spent four of the last five years in Spain’s top flight but haven’t finished above 13th in that span. The last time Valladolid managed a top-half finish in La Liga was 1999-2000. But that shouldn’t dissuade you from considering these players if they fit your squad and budget.
As we did yesterday, we’re focusing on just two names per position because two names per position may actually be two names too many (I kid, I kid, I love Ronaldo and I’m sure he’ll turn around the club’s Sorare scores soon).
Sergio Asenjo - GK, age 33
Asenjo started his career with Valladolid before moving to Villarreal where he would play for nine years, making 228 La Liga starts and recording an impressive 73 clean sheets. Now back with his childhood club after signing on a free transfer until the end of the 2023-24 season, Asenjo is making the most of his 16th season in Spain’s top flight.
