The Lurgy (dreaded variety, of course) descended upon my dwelling and the inhabitants therein a week ago Sunday. Much coughing, wheezing, sniffling and distemper followed. Nerves, frayed. Emotions, unchecked.
It turns out one man’s hilarious attempt to muddle through sleep deprivation, dextromethorphan indulgence and antihistamine-related euphoria is another man’s very disjointed and confusing fantasy advice. I’ve attempted a bit of a rescue job here by revising the focus to maximize highlights without the more typical deep-dive on specific players.
A Season To Forget
First off: pick up your ball and go home, New England and Colorado.
These have been seasons to forget for last season’s top teams but individual performances have remained strong for a couple of elite names. Carles Gil remains under contract with the Revolution for two more seasons and is coming off a campaign in which he posted this scoring.
At age 29 and clearly going strong, Gil remains at the top of the list of players to watch for potential end-of-year sell-offs or winter auction. Gil got it done without the benefit of last season’s dynamic scoring threats Gustavo Bou and Adam Buksa. (He also didn’t have Tajon Buchanan which was a pretty massive miss despite Tajon’s lower counting stat totals).
Buksa was sold to RC Lens back in June after he led the Revs in goals (16) and and was second in g+a (19) in 2021. He has yet to make an impact in France where his three substitute appearances total 49’ of goalless, 0 assist action. Tajon finally got on the pitch and the score sheet for new Club Brugge in their weekend walloping of Mechelen. It’s been a slow transition for both players.
Bou is still with the club but significant injuries led to a protracted lay-off and Coach Bruce Arena thinks he should have been back sooner.
